The supervising Minister of Education, Nyeson Wike had thought that it would be a piece of cake for him to go into a discussion with the leadership of ASUU and come out smiling after a compromise, but was shocked at the recent meeting in Abuja when it became obvious that ASUU is very serious.

 

His plan to use the resolution of the strike to lobby President Jonathan to make a full Minister of Education has does suffered a serious set back. It doesn't seem that would happen anytime soon and it appears ASUU and its leadership are not ready to accept anything less.

Saka Will Port Back To Etisalat After 90 Days – CEO Etisalat Nigeria

The Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria Mr.Steve Evans,  has described the celebrated porting of the comedian Hafiz Oyetoro popularly known as Saka as a mistake, noting that he will return back to Etisalat fold after 90 days.
Speaking in Lagos yesterday at a media Roundtable on Mobile Number Portability (MNP), Evans noted that “We all make mistakes in life” and the decision by Saka to port from Etisalat to a rival network MTN Nigeria was one of such mistakes on the part of the comedian.
In what could be regarded as one of the official statement by any high ranking staff of Etisalat since Saka ported over a month ago,  Evans said he is hoping Saka would realise his mistakes and port back at the end of the 90 days grace period given by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for subscribers to port back to any other than his original network.
The CEO noted that Etisalat was well prepared for the MNP and has built and expanded its network to accommodate over 30 million subscribers which is double its present capacity.
He noted that his company has recorded very impressive results since the MNP kicked off on April22. Though he refused to provide the details but said he was satisfied with the report he was getting from his men on the field.
Furthermore,  Evans maintained that his company has improved tremendously in its Key Performance -indicator (KPI) ratings.

Weapons Stock: JTF Arrests 3 Lebanese in Kano

The Joint Security Task Force (JTF) in Kano, has arrested three citizens of Lebanon allegedly owing the hide-out of light weapons recovered at a bunker in the city.

Brig.-Gen. Iliyasu Abba, the Brigade Commander, 3rd Brigade, Nigerian Army, said one of the suspects was arrested on Tuesday at a house on Gaya Road in Bompai area of Kano.

According to him, another suspect was arrested in Abuja while the third suspect was apprehended since May 16, at Aminu Kano International Airport, on his way to Beirut, Lebanon.

“The one arrested at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport had a sum of 60,000 US dollars in his possession.”

He said one Abdullahi Hassan Tahir Padalla, who was the owner of the house in which one of the suspect was arrested was still at large.

Abba said among the weapons discovered during the operation on Tuesday were 17 AK 47 rifles, 44 magazines, four land mines and 12 RPG bombs, 14 RPG charger, 11 66 mm anti-tanks weapons, one SMG magazine, one pistol and magazine.

Also, 11, 433 rounds of 7.26 mm special, 76 hand grenade, rocket propelled guns, 122 calibre artillery and anti mines weapons were recovered.

“What you are seeing here are weapons of mass destruction in terms of our situation here right now in Nigerian.

“If these things has been brought out only God knows the type of destruction they will cause to innocent persons in the state or in the country,’’ he said.

He said the Department of State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja had been investigating the case for long.

In a remark, the state Director of the SSS, Mr. Bassey Ettang, said that the three suspects had a link to the Hezbollah group in Lebanon.

According to him, the suspects have for a long time been using the bunker in the house to stockpile arms and ammunition.

He restated the commitment of the SSS and other security agencies to continue with the ongoing war on criminals nationwide. (NAN)

Artist Creates World’s Smallest Sculpture

Renowned artist Willard Wigan has created the smallest sculpture in the world.

The material, of which the artist has created it, is a spec of face hair.

The tiny artwork measures 3 microns and is visible only through a microscope.

55-year-old Willard is already famous for his pinhead sculptures that fit in the eye of a needle, but his new creation has gone beyond all expectations.

The inspiration came suddenly one day as the artist was shaving.

When he noticed tiny hair stubble embedded in his fingerprint, he got the idea to use it as a canvas in order to create the world’s smallest artwork, something that no one had ever seen before.

With the help of micro-tools, he removed the hair from his finger and started working on it through a microscope.

He spent five weeks, 16 hours, every day work in order to complete the project.

Willard worked with a tiny high-precision tool, holding his breath and heartbeat to create the sculpture.

After hundreds of hours of painstaking and tedious work, he sculpted a golden chopper motorcycle over the hair.

The microscopic chopper is smaller than a human blood cell!

"It drove me mad to do. I burst a blood vessel in my eye, staring so hard through the microscope.

It has been one of my most challenging projects ever. I have surpassed what I even thought I was capable of, "said Willard, when he completed his work.

The tiny chopper will "travel" around the world so that the entire planet finally sees that size does matters.

INEC To Issue 10-Year Permanent Voters’ Card Before End Of 2013 — Jega

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, said that the commission would issue the 10-year permanent voters’ cards to registered voters before the end of 2013.

Speaking on Monday in Abuja at the commission’s quarterly meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners, Jega said that INEC had gone far in the production of the first phase of the cards.
 “By the time the contract is executed, all the registered voters will have their permanent voters card produced.
 “It is our hope that all the cards will be distributed before the end of the year,” Jega said.

Actress Kehinde Olorunyomi delivers first child in the US

Jim Iyke impostor nabbed in Onitsha, Anambra State

Less than a week after Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke denied owning an account on the picture sharing site, Instagram, officials of the Onitsha branch of First City Monument Bank have announced nabbing another impostor defrauding people using a facebook account registered under the actor’s identity.
